Notification Settings
Notification settings allow you to control how and when you receive notifications across all channels. You can customize preferences for different types of notifications, set quiet hours, and choose your preferred delivery methods.
Accessing Notification Settings
To access your notification settings:
- Go to Account Settings
- Click "Notification Settings" in the navigation
- You'll see notifications organized by category
Notification Channels
You can receive notifications through multiple channels:
- In-App: Notifications appear in your notification center within LavishMade
- Email: Notifications sent to your registered email address
- Push: Browser push notifications (requires permission)
- SMS: Text message notifications (if enabled)
You can enable or disable each channel independently for each notification type.
Notification Categories
Notifications are organized into categories:
- Social Activity: Friend requests, comments, messages, tags
- Security & Account: Login alerts, password changes, security alerts
- Content Updates: New posts from friends, new blog posts from subscriptions
- Marketing & Promotions: Promotional emails, newsletters, feature announcements
- System Notifications: System updates, maintenance notices
Notification Types
You can customize settings for specific notification types:
- Friend Requests: When someone sends you a friend request
- Comments: When someone comments on your posts
- Comment Replies: When someone replies to your comments
- Messages: When you receive direct messages
- Tags: When someone tags you in posts or comments
- Event RSVPs: When someone RSVPs to your events
- Subscriptions: Updates about your subscriptions
- Account Security: Security alerts and login notifications
- And many more...
Notification Frequency
You can set the frequency for each notification type:
- Immediate: Receive notifications as soon as they occur
- Daily: Receive a daily digest of notifications
- Weekly: Receive a weekly summary
- Never: Disable notifications for this type
Quiet Hours
Set quiet hours to avoid notifications during specific times:
- Specify start and end times for quiet hours
- Notifications are paused during quiet hours (except critical security alerts)
- Quiet hours apply to email, push, and SMS notifications
- In-app notifications are not affected by quiet hours
- You can set different quiet hours for different notification types
Critical security notifications (like login alerts) bypass quiet hours to ensure you're always informed about important account activity.
Priority Levels
Notifications have different priority levels:
- Critical: Important security alerts that bypass quiet hours
- High: Important notifications like messages and friend requests
- Normal: Standard notifications like new posts
- Low: Less urgent notifications like promotional emails
Batching Notifications
Some notifications can be batched together:
- Multiple notifications of the same type can be grouped together
- Reduces notification overload
- You can enable or disable batching per notification type
- Batching works best for frequent, low-priority notifications
Daily Limits
Set maximum notifications per day for specific types:
- Prevent notification overload
- Set a maximum number of notifications per day
- Once the limit is reached, additional notifications are held until the next day
- Useful for high-frequency notification types
Push Notifications
To enable browser push notifications:
- Go to Notification Settings
- Enable push notifications for the types you want
- Your browser will ask for permission
- Click "Allow" to enable push notifications
- You can test push notifications from the settings page
Push notifications work even when you're not actively using LavishMade, as long as your browser is open.
Publisher-Specific Settings
In addition to global settings, you can control notifications from specific publishers:
- Visit a publisher's profile or subscription page
- Adjust notification preferences for that specific publisher
- These settings override your global preferences for that publisher
- Useful if you want more or fewer notifications from specific creators
Best Practices
- Enable critical notifications: Keep security and account alerts enabled
- Set quiet hours: Avoid notifications during sleep or work hours
- Use batching: Batch frequent, low-priority notifications
- Review regularly: Check your settings periodically and adjust as needed
- Test push notifications: Make sure push notifications work on your device
- Customize by type: Different notification types may need different settings
Troubleshooting
Common issues and solutions:
- Not receiving notifications: Check that notifications are enabled for that type and channel
- Too many notifications: Adjust frequency, enable batching, or set daily limits
- Push notifications not working: Check browser permissions and enable push in settings
- Notifications during quiet hours: Critical security alerts bypass quiet hours
- Email notifications in spam: Add LavishMade to your email contacts
Tip: Take time to customize your notification preferences. Well-configured notifications help you stay informed without feeling overwhelmed. Start with enabling what's important to you, then adjust as you learn what works best!
