Becoming a Host

To create events on LavishMade, you must be an approved host. The host application process ensures that events are organized by responsible community members who can manage gatherings effectively.

Why Become a Host?

As an approved host, you can:

  • Create and organize real-world events for the LavishMade community
  • Manage RSVPs, waitlists, and attendees
  • Create paid events and accept payments through Stripe
  • Send messages and updates to all attendees
  • Build your reputation as an event organizer
  • Connect with community members in person

How to Apply

To apply to become a host:

  1. Navigate to the /irl page or event creation page
  2. Click "Become a Host" or "Apply to Host Events"
  3. Fill out the host application form with:
    • Your name and contact information
    • Why you want to host events
    • Your experience organizing events (if any)
    • Types of events you're interested in hosting
    • Any relevant background or qualifications
  4. Submit your application
  5. Wait for admin review (typically within a few days)

Application Review Process

Your application will be reviewed by LavishMade admins:

  • Admins review applications to ensure hosts can responsibly manage events
  • Review typically takes a few days
  • You'll receive an email notification when your application is approved or declined
  • If approved, you can immediately start creating events
  • If declined, you can reapply after addressing any concerns

What Makes a Good Host Application?

Strong host applications typically include:

  • Clear purpose: Explain why you want to host events and what you hope to bring to the community
  • Relevant experience: Share any experience organizing events, meetups, or gatherings
  • Event ideas: Describe the types of events you're interested in hosting
  • Commitment: Show that you're committed to creating quality experiences for attendees
  • Responsibility: Demonstrate that you understand the responsibilities of hosting events

After Approval

Once you're approved as a host:

  • You'll receive an email confirmation
  • You can immediately start creating events
  • Your profile will show that you're an approved host
  • You can set up Stripe Connect if you want to create paid events
  • You'll have access to host-specific features and tools

Setting Up Stripe for Paid Events

If you want to create paid events, you'll need to set up Stripe Connect:

  1. Go to your Publisher Settings
  2. Navigate to the Stripe Connect section
  3. Click "Connect Stripe Account"
  4. Follow the Stripe onboarding process
  5. Complete verification (may require business information)
  6. Once connected, you can create paid events

Stripe Connect allows you to accept payments directly, with LavishMade taking a 10% platform fee automatically.

Host Responsibilities

As a host, you're responsible for:

  • Creating quality events: Organize events that provide value to attendees
  • Managing RSVPs: Review and approve/reject RSVP requests in request-to-attend mode
  • Communicating: Send updates and important information to attendees
  • Following through: Host events as described and at the scheduled time
  • Handling issues: Address problems, cancellations, or changes appropriately
  • Processing refunds: Handle refunds for paid events when necessary
  • Maintaining standards: Follow LavishMade's community guidelines and event policies

Host Status

Your host status can be:

  • Approved: You can create and manage events
  • Pending: Your application is under review
  • Revoked: Your host status has been removed (rare, typically for policy violations)

If your host status is revoked, you'll be notified and can appeal the decision.

Tips for New Hosts

  • Start with smaller, free events to build your reputation
  • Write detailed event descriptions so attendees know what to expect
  • Respond promptly to RSVP requests and attendee questions
  • Send helpful updates before the event (location reminders, what to bring, etc.)
  • Be prepared and arrive early on event day
  • Follow up after events and encourage photo sharing
  • Learn from each event to improve future ones
