Event Types

When creating an event on LavishMade, you'll choose an event type that best describes your gathering. Event types help attendees find events they're interested in and set expectations for what the event will be like.

Available Event Types

LavishMade offers six event types to choose from:

Meetup

Casual gatherings for community members to connect, network, and socialize. Perfect for informal get-togethers, coffee meetups, or community building events.

Examples: Coffee meetups, networking events, casual hangouts, community mixers

Workshop

Educational or skill-building sessions where attendees learn something new. These events focus on teaching, hands-on learning, or sharing knowledge.

Examples: Photography workshops, writing classes, cooking lessons, art tutorials, skill-building sessions

Performance

Shows, concerts, readings, or artistic presentations where performers showcase their work. These events feature live entertainment or artistic expression.

Examples: Live music shows, poetry readings, theater performances, art exhibitions, comedy nights

Social

Parties, mixers, or networking events focused on socializing and having fun. These events prioritize connection and celebration.

Examples: Parties, celebrations, mixers, social gatherings, themed events

Outdoor

Hikes, picnics, or outdoor activities that take place in nature or outdoor spaces. These events emphasize outdoor experiences and physical activity.

Examples: Hiking groups, picnics, outdoor photography walks, nature outings, outdoor yoga

Other

Any other type of gathering that doesn't fit into the above categories. Use this for unique or specialized events.

Examples: Unique events, specialized gatherings, events that combine multiple types

Choosing the Right Type

When selecting an event type, consider:

  • Primary focus: What is the main purpose of your event?
  • Attendee expectations: What will attendees be doing or experiencing?
  • Event structure: Is it educational, social, performance-based, or activity-focused?
  • Best fit: Choose the type that most accurately describes your event

If your event combines multiple types (e.g., a social meetup with a performance), choose the primary type and mention the other aspects in your description.

Event Type and Discovery

Event types help with discovery:

  • Attendees can filter events by type when browsing
  • Events appear in relevant room/interest pages based on type
  • Event type helps set expectations before attendees RSVP
  • Similar events are grouped together for easier discovery

Event Type and RSVP Modes

Different event types may work better with different RSVP modes:

  • Workshops: Often use "Request to Attend" to ensure attendees have the right background or interest
  • Meetups & Social: Often use "Auto-Approve" for casual, open gatherings
  • Performances: May use either mode depending on capacity and exclusivity
  • Outdoor: May use "Request to Attend" to ensure attendees are prepared for the activity

However, you can use any RSVP mode with any event type - choose what works best for your specific event.

Changing Event Type

If you need to change an event's type:

  • For draft events, you can change the type freely
  • For approved events, you'll need to submit a change request
  • Changes go through the admin review process
  • Consider if the change affects attendee expectations

Tip: Choose the event type that best matches your event's primary purpose. If you're unsure, think about what attendees will be doing most of the time - learning, socializing, watching a performance, or participating in an activity?
