Profile Highlights

Profile highlights let you showcase selected shelf items directly on your profile page. This gives visitors a quick glimpse into your cultural consumption and helps them get to know your interests.

What are Profile Highlights?

Profile highlights are a curated selection of shelf items displayed on your profile:

• Selected Items: You choose which items to highlight
• Visual Display: Highlights appear as cards with covers/posters
• Quick Overview: Visitors can quickly see what you're into
• Profile Enhancement: Adds personality and depth to your profile

Enabling Profile Highlights

To enable and configure profile highlights:

1. Go to your shelf settings (usually accessible from your shelf page)
2. Find the "Profile Highlights" section
3. Enable highlights by toggling the setting
4. Select which items to highlight (typically up to 6 items)
5. Choose the order in which highlights appear
6. Save your settings

Selecting Highlight Items

You can choose which items from your shelf to highlight:

• Recent Items: Highlight items you've recently added or finished
• Favorites: Choose items from your favorites lists
• Currently Consuming: Show what you're actively reading/watching/listening to
• Mix and Match: Combine different types of items for variety

Typically, you can highlight up to 6 items at a time.

Ordering Highlights

The order of highlights matters—items appear in the order you set:

• Drag items to reorder them
• Put your most important or recent items first
• Consider what you want visitors to see first
• You can reorder at any time

What Visitors See

When highlights are enabled, visitors to your profile will see:

• A "Shelf Highlights" section on your profile
• Visual cards showing book covers, film posters, or album artwork
• Item titles and basic information
• Links to view the full item on your shelf

Highlights respect privacy settings—only public or subscriber-visible items will appear.

Updating Highlights

You should update your highlights regularly:

• Keep It Current: Update highlights as you finish new items
• Refresh Regularly: Change highlights to keep your profile fresh
• Seasonal Updates: Consider updating highlights seasonally or monthly
• Reflect Your Current Interests: Make sure highlights represent what you're into now

Highlights vs. Favorites

Highlights and favorites serve different purposes:

• Highlights: Current or recent items you want to showcase
• Favorites: Your all-time top picks, curated lists
• Both Can Appear: You can have both highlights and favorites on your profile
• Different Purposes: Highlights show what you're into now; favorites show your taste

Privacy and Highlights

Highlights respect item privacy settings:

• Only public or subscriber-visible items can appear as highlights
• Private items won't appear in highlights, even if selected
• If you make an item private after highlighting it, it will be removed from highlights
• Highlights are visible to anyone who can see your profile

Disabling Highlights

You can disable profile highlights at any time:

1. Go to your shelf settings
2. Find the "Profile Highlights" section
3. Toggle off the highlights setting
4. Save your changes

Highlights will be removed from your profile, but your shelf items remain unchanged.

Highlights Best Practices

• Keep It Fresh: Update highlights regularly to reflect your current interests
