Favorites & Top Lists

Favorites (also called Top Lists) are curated collections of your absolute favorite items from your shelf. These lists let you showcase your top picks in films, books, music, and TV shows, helping others discover great content and learn about your taste.

What are Favorites Lists?

Favorites lists are special collections that highlight your top items:

  • Top Films: Your favorite movies (typically Top 4 or Top 8)
  • Top Books: Your favorite books
  • Top Music: Your favorite albums
  • Top TV Shows: Your favorite television series

These lists are curated from items already on your shelf, so you can only add items you've already logged.

Creating a Favorites List

To create or edit a favorites list:

  1. Navigate to your shelf
  2. Click on the "Favorites" tab
  3. Select the type of list you want to create (Films, Books, Music, or TV Shows)
  4. Click "Edit" or "Create" to start building your list
  5. Search for items from your shelf to add to the list
  6. Drag items to reorder them (your top pick goes first)
  7. Add items until your list is complete
  8. Save your list

Adding Items to Favorites

Items in your favorites lists must come from your shelf:

  • Only items you've already added to your shelf can be added to favorites
  • Use the search function to find items from your shelf
  • Click "+" buttons in empty slots to add new items
  • You can add items in any order, then reorder them by dragging

Reordering Items

The order of items in your favorites list matters—your top pick should be first:

  • Drag items to reorder them within the list
  • The first item is your #1 favorite
  • Items are displayed in order, so put your most important picks first
  • You can reorder at any time as your preferences change

List Visibility

Favorites lists have their own visibility settings:

  • Visible to All: Your favorites appear on your profile and shelf for everyone to see
  • Visible to Self: Your favorites are private and only visible to you on your shelf

You can have public favorites even if some individual items in the list are private on your shelf.

Favorites on Your Profile

When you make a favorites list public, it can appear on your profile:

  • Public favorites lists are showcased on your profile page
  • They help visitors quickly see your top recommendations
  • Favorites add personality and depth to your profile
  • They're a great way to share your taste with others

Managing Your Favorites

You can manage your favorites lists at any time:

  • Add Items: Click "+" buttons to add new items to your list
  • Remove Items: Click "X" buttons to remove items from your list
  • Reorder: Drag items to change their order
  • Edit: Click "Edit" to modify your list
  • Change Visibility: Make lists public or private

List Limits

Favorites lists have maximum item limits:

  • Most lists allow up to 4 or 8 items
  • This keeps lists focused and meaningful
  • You don't have to fill all slots—partial lists are fine
  • Limits help ensure these are truly your top picks

Favorites Best Practices

  • Be Selective: Only include items that are truly your favorites
  • Keep It Current: Update your lists as your taste evolves
  • Order Matters: Put your absolute favorites first
  • Mix It Up: Consider including a variety of genres or styles
  • Share Publicly: Making favorites public helps others discover great content
