How to Create a Deep Dive
Creating a Deep Dive is simple and streamlined. Here's how it works:
- Go to "Deep Dives" in the top navigation
- Click "Create New Deep Dive"
- Step 1: Give your collection a title that captures your theme or topic
- Step 1: Choose your visibility settings (Visible to All, Visible to Subscribers, or Visible to Self)
- Click "Create" to create your Deep Dive
- After Creation: Once your Deep Dive is created, you can then add a description, tags, background image, and start adding items using the new streamlined interface
This two-step process makes it quick to get started - just add a title and choose who can see it, then customize and build your collection with all the details and content you want.
Adding Items to Your Deep Dive
There are two main ways to add items to your Deep Dives:
- From Item Pages: Right-click the "..." menu on posts, blog posts, or other Deep Dives and select "Save to Deep Dive"
- From Within Your Deep Dive: Click "Add Item" while viewing or editing your Deep Dive to see the new streamlined interface
When you click "Add Item" directly within your Deep Dive, you'll see a beautiful landing page with multiple ways to add content:
1. Drag & Drop File Upload
The easiest way to add files is by dragging and dropping them directly onto the upload area. You can upload:
- Images: Photos, artwork, or any image files (up to 20 MB)
- Videos: Video files (up to 200 MB) - videos are processed in the background so you can add details while they process
- Audio: Audio files or recordings
After uploading, you'll see a preview of your file and can add a title, description, tags, and optional audio or video notes before creating the dive item.
2. Add Item From URL
Click "Add Item From URL" to save content from any website. Simply paste the URL and we'll automatically fetch the metadata (title, image, description). You can then:
- Edit the title if you want to customize it
- Add your own description or notes
- Add tags to help organize your collection
- Include optional audio or video notes
3. Add Item from Lavish
Click "Add Item from Lavish" to include content from your LavishMade collection. You can search and add:
- Blog Posts: Your published blog posts or posts from others
- Deep Dives: Other Deep Dives you want to reference
- Books: Books from your shelf or the community
- Films: Films from your collection
Search results appear as beautiful cards with cover photos, making it easy to find and select the content you want. Once selected, you can add notes, tags, and optional audio or video commentary.
4. Add Section Break
Use "Add Section Break" to organize your Deep Dive into sections. Section breaks help structure longer collections and make them easier to navigate. You can add a title, optional description, tags, and even audio or video notes to section breaks.
Tip: The right-click "..." menu method is perfect for quickly saving content as you discover it, while the "Add Item" interface within your Deep Dive gives you full control with all the new options like drag-and-drop, URL saving, and section breaks.
