This is a question I remember reading in a Klosterman book somewhere, but I can't for the life of me find the source.... anyway here is the question... You get to go back in time and leave yourself a small message. You can't reveal future events, no warnings, no spoilers.. you just write a small message to yourself. What do you say? I'll go first. Mine would say...take time seriously. When someone you love wants you, be there. #thoughtexperiment #writingprompt #time #relationships #presence #memory #klosterman #bookthoughts

I also spent most of my life hoping that I'd be "worth it" or "interesting" instead of just doing what I loved and what I felt was worth doing. So I could have definitely used this advice too.

I'd say something like, "Double-down on what you love. Doing so will keep you on the right path."

I love this!! I think something i'm finding as I'm well into my 30s now is that the things that brought me so much joy as a kid and young adult... are the things that still bring me joy today. I spent a solid chunk of my 20s trying to be someone I wasn't, which I'm sure is many people's stories... but doubling down... feels like such good advice I wish I had also been given.

I've gone through a similar process, mostly in my early 30s where I was more focused on becoming a responsible adult than I was on maintaining my creativity and pursuing those things I've always loved. Now that I'm about to turn 40 I feel like I have this great secret, that loving the stuff I loved when I was a kid is one of the keys to finding containment.
