Quick thought. I’m really considering getting rid of Instagram….is that crazy? I got on today and all I saw were AI videos and political comments. Ugh. What are your thoughts? I feel like I’m scared of not being able to connect with the world? But what if that’s what it wants…? The fear festers deeply, but I think that’s a good thing. It’s a sign to get off Instagram. Maybe I’ll just stick to Lavish Made for the rest of forever?

I feel you on that. It can be overwhelming all of the with all the consumerism being pushed, reminders of depressing realties shared, the AI plague, and personal artificiality you can find on so many pages. I think a compromise is limiting time spent on the app + curating your algorithm to see more of what you want. I have a friend who recently ditched all social media and she traded in her iPhone for a flip phone to get away from spending time being depressed by the apps. I think that's a little far, but to each their own. I feel similar things with my Instagram and Twitter, but I've both made good friend and gotten work from being on both so it definitely comes with balancing the pros and cons of social media in my experience. But yeah, Lavish Made has been an overall mure pleasant place than the rest!

There is nothing on IG except ads and fake art! I deleted Facebook for a long time and actually didn’t miss it as much as I thought I would. Since I want to build up more of our creations it feels kind of necessary but it would be rad to just use Lavish to post scribblings and art now.

I’ve been having the same thoughts! I fell like it’s over consumerism for the mind, but I think FOMO talks me out of it but also partly I know that I woukd vanish and perhaps I’m uncomfortable confronting the fact that I know that my world will shrink significantly even though it’s what I want. More time for the things and people that matter, not some random girl who barely liked me in high schools third selfie of the week with some random quote she won’t live by the following week. I guess my problem more so is I like to post like no one is watching or like everyone who IS watching wants to watch and just be genuine and have real conversations! Is this a mini blog post?

Exactly! FOMO in the media is a HUGE mental health issue. It’s ingrained in us now to “HAVE” to show everyone what’s going on in our lives. Instagram has established a really toxic community for us. I think the fear of shrinking your social community is SO valid and it’s a fear a lot of have. Take me for instance. I have definitely been very particular as of late about my chosen friends and who I surround myself with. I’m at a point where I’m second guessing if it’s worth my very small amount of followers. I mostly have done it for myself, but the media creates this pressure. ESPECIALLY on us moms. It’s so hard to not compare yourself to other media moms! I think there needs to be an end point for that. I believe in creating a healthy and more well established friend circle minus the pressure of big media. We should do this. Invite the creativity, the blogging, the REALness. The more I’m reading these comments, the more I’m closer to deleting Instagram!

I think as more people come here it'll be even easier to drop something like instagram. I still find myself checking it even if i'm not posting. Its weird to think how looking at it is a habit.

Exactly! It’s an endorphin boost, the scrolling. We’re programmed to get the good chemicals from it now. I feel like I need to reverse that.
