Every day is halloween

Who we are is whom we choose to be at any given moment, depending on personality, whim, temperament, or subjective need. No other person or organization can abridge that right, as shape-shifting is inherent to human consciousness, and allows us to thrive and survive under greatly differing circumstances by becoming different people as need or desire arises. By assuming the mantle of the Other, it allows us, paradoxically, to complete ourselves. Every day is Halloween.
Roy Batty - Friendster

I didn’t see this quote when it first made the rounds online, but the first time I read it or maybe it was hearing it in a YouTube video… memory can be so fuzzy, but it stuck. It kept floating in my head while I was working on Lavish Made. Quietly influencing things. And then, while I was reading Lurking by Joanne McNeil, I came across it again. Same quote, same words. But it hit different.

That was the same day a friend reached out and asked me if Lavish would be LGBTQ+ friendly. They said, “The world sees me as a woman. And I know that’s how it will hear my voice.”

And it just kind of hit me how important this thing is. It’s not just some fun social space built off my own history or design preferences. It has to be more than that. Because people deserve a place where they can show up as themselves, or someone they’re becoming, or someone they’re trying out. Where nobody else gets to decide what that means.

Lavish isn’t trying to sort you, score you, or serve you content based on assumptions. There’s no algorithm guessing your identity. No feed trying to trap you in a version of yourself that doesn’t fit anymore.
You can speak loudly. You can disappear. You can make something just for your friends. Or for no one. You can be a version of yourself that only exists here, for now.

Lavish is for the shapeshifters. The ones who are always becoming. The ones who carry more than one story inside them. The ones who find themselves without an online home. The ones who have never quite fit into platforms built to flatten them out.

Everyday is Halloween.
