For those in the OKC area - I host a variety open mic at Factory Obscura every month. It's a mic like no other: you're surrounded by a colorful art space, you get a full stage with full light & sound production, you get an open-minded audience that actually pays attention, and you can do pretty much anything you want within content guidelines. Poetry, music, comedy, performance art, juggling, monologuing, magic, puppetry, live drawing, mime, flow arts, bird calls....it's all fair game, but it only happens if folks bring it! Part of how we are able to do this: it's ages 14 & up, we don't serve any alcohol, sets are kept short, and there's an admission charge for spectating non-performers. There's also an online sign-up process that helps us prepare and weed out any hate that might try to slip through. It may be unconventional to the typical open mic, but if you make it out to one, I promise you'll see the difference it makes. Our next mic is January 8th, and the deadline to sign up is Jan. 3rd.
