A total masterpiece that's held up extremely well ten years later. Its influence on the A24-ing of cinema is unmistakable, but even if it wasn't such a trailblazer, this methodically-crafted folk horror film would be so iconic. It makes use of all the tricks of pacing, editing, music, coloring, and special effects to create a palpable atmosphere, yet at the center of its acting and script remains a complex, discomforting, human intensity that speaks as much to our reality as to the supernatural.
