As far as I can tell, it's all about bat awareness -- their important role in the ecosystem, contributions to our way of living, etc. I saw something about how many bunches of dollars they save in agriculture by eating bug pests. When I told my partner about Bat Week, they basically said, "yeah, I've got a bunch of goth friends who talk about it every year."
