When I started my podcast, The Work Of Wrestling, in 2015 one of my goals was to be on Stone Cold Steve Austin's podcast. A couple years later it actually happened. I reflect back on this with a bit of melancholy as I don't think I made the most out of this opportunity. I was like a dog who caught the car. After we finished recording Steve asked me a question that I couldn't quite make out which led to an awkward silence. I wanted to ask him if he'd be a guest on my show but I was too timid.
This represented the peak of my show's popularity and it couldn't have come at a worse time. I was burnt out and considering ending my show, and I wasn't in the right frame of mind to parlay this into something bigger.
That said, I still have this conversation recorded for posterity and I think it holds up. My takeaway from the experience is that it's important to set realistic goals and work toward them, but to also be prepared to handle the outcome, whatever it may be.
