My resolution for 2026 is to share more of my work...so here's a poem full of female rage.
Bodies
Bodies
I read once that thin bodies are the social ideal
Under authoritarian rule
Because if (women) are malnourished
Then they are less likely to fight back
I’ll tell you a secret though:
Women have been starving since the dawn of time
For too long we have been fed a diet
Of judgment, of blame, of lies
And we are absolutely ravenous
Peering through the glass to behold
Countless delicacies that have been withheld from us
Through violence, through control
Why then, are you surprised
when we pick up the hammer?
The shattering of glass is a dinner bell
And those who stand in our way
Will find themselves devoured
I want to glut myself on stolen rights
Fill myself to bursting with truth and power
And by the time we have all eaten our fill
Our bodies will be strong and proud
They will take up space and fill out clothes
They will belong to us, and us alone
And those would would persecute us
Can choke on the scraps
