Three Months, Twenty-seven Days

Three Months, Twenty-seven Days

Ramparts red glare dazzle then dim whose bombs exit night's hymn
Timer starts midnight the fifth; impatience none can condemn
Celebrations, milestones, and happy accidents
Losses, missteps, and days that make you feel tense
Good, bad, and all things indifferent
These are the ingredients of time both near and distant
An orange oasis glows on the horizon
Encouragement to keep pushing forward as energy gets siphoned
Hot, sweltering pavement becomes covered in leaves and breezes cool
Shelves are stocked with candy and new decorations put up in school
Characters and costumes and face paint get claimed
Parents discuss routes and arrangements are made
Witches cackle, ghouls groan, and zombies scream
Big sisters tell little brothers go back to sleep it was just a bad dream
Scary movies play and folks take fright
Won't be long now before it is Halloween night
